I don't usually use it for research guidance, although most of the programs come with some sort of help along those lines. I can keep track of records that I find in all sorts of places, not limited to sourcing with just the records on any particular website, and in the process, I know I'm not having any copyright issues, which can be the case when you copy images from one site and upload them to another site. I can put whatever notes I want to in it, including suspicions, hunches and stories about things that some family members don't want to hear about. "My Tree" that no one else can change (well, my siblings have access to it) 2. I have always used a third-party software to keep my own database of family on my computer. I would be interested in anyone's thoughts or opinions on which program they like best, and whether it is even worth using software for family history work. ![]() ![]() My thinking is that the compare feature in FTM would allow me to expedite this process. I like the user interface of FTM much better than RootsMagic and read a review ( ) that suggested some benefits to FTM because of its longevity and greater number of users.ฤก of my big projects is to try to start vetting the 64,000 names and transferring any that are viable and not already in family search to that platform. Recently, I have thought about trying to use 1 of these programs to get a little more help in my research and possibly make some charts. I purchased Family Tree Maker only because a relative shared 64,000 names with me in a file from FTM, so I used it to upload in the. A friend who I respect raved on about RootsMagic which is why a purchase it. I also have Family Tree Maker 2017, and RootsMagic which I have dabbled with. Also, if I start in family there is no button to synchronize with. ![]() I primarily use to do my research just because I believe it has more records pertinent to my research than family and I can link everything by clicking the button. Is family history software like Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic, etc., worth using? If so, which one is your favorite, and why?
